What is "SKU" in ecommerce?

An SKU is a unique identifier for a product in your online store. It stands for “stock keeping unit,” and it’s used to track inventory and help you stay organized. When you add a product to your store, you’ll need to assign it an SKU. This can be a simple number or code, like “1234” or “ABCD.” You can also use a more complex system, like a combination of letters and numbers. The important thing is that each SKU is unique to a specific product. That way, when a customer orders that product, you can easily find and ship the right item. SKUs are also important for managing your inventory. You can use them to keep track of how many of each product you have in stock. And, if you use a barcode system, you can scan SKUs to quickly update your inventory levels. If you’re just starting out, you don’t need to overthink your SKU system. Just choose a simple system that you can easily remember and update. As your business grows, you can always switch to a more complex system.
